Rep. Taylor to Support Effort to Remove Abortion Funding
from the Affordable Healthcare for America Act
November 2, 2009 (Washington, DC) – Although Congressman Taylor does not support the Affordable Healthcare for America Act, he strongly supports Congressman Bart Stupak’s effort to include the Hyde Amendment in the healthcare bill. The Hyde Amendment prohibits federal funds to be used to pay for abortions and to pay for health insurance policies that include abortion coverage. “I fully support Congressman Stupak’s amendment to include the Hyde language in the final version of the Affordable Healthcare for America Act.” The current version of the healthcare bill includes language from the Capps amendment which allows for federal funds to go towards abortions. This amendment mandates that at least one plan in the health insurance exchange provides abortion coverage. The Affordable Healthcare for America Act is scheduled to be voted on this week in the House of Representatives. Congressman Taylor will vote with Congressman Stupak to add the Hyde amendment to the final version of the healthcare bill to prevent federal funds being used for abortions. ###
