Latest hurricane-related insurance suits filed in Jefferson County Print

A total of four new lawsuits against insurance companies over hurricane damage claims were filed in Jefferson County District Court, Sept. 21-25, 2009.

The following complaints were filed:

  • Angela and John Lavergne of 5475 Timberline Lane in Beaumont allege Voyager Indemnity Insurance Company and Assurant Specialty Property denied their claim for roof, water, wind, structural and contents damages to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Voyager and Assurant denied the claim after they assigned Southwest Adjusters of Texas and adjusters Timothy Parker, Joseph Rasnick, Peter Fahey, Jessica Charmack and Michael Wallace to investigate. The Lavergnes are represented by Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont and by David P. Wilson and Matthew C. Matheny of Provost and Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont.   • Kevin and Laurie LeDoux of 669 West Kitchen Drive in Port Arthur allege Travelers Lloyds of Texas Insurance Company denied their claim for broken windows and water damage caused after Hurricane Rita struck on Sept. 24, 2005. The LeDouxes are represented by Jill S. Chatelain of McPherson, Hughes, Bradley, Wimberley, Steele and Chatelain in Port Arthur. Jefferson County District Court case number: D184-983.

  • Glenda Segura of 730 Zavalla in Beaumont alleges Capitol County Mutual Fire Insurance Company failed to disclose limitations on Segura's policy, but still forced her to pay premiums. Segura suffered economic and mental anguish damages because her home was not properly insured when Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008, according to the complaint. Also named as defendants in the complaint are ICA and adjuster Doug Browning, whom Capitol hired to investigate Segura's claim. Segura will be represented by Clint Brasher and Joe Muckleroy of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: B184-993.

  • Southeast Texas OB/GYN Associates of 755 North St. in Beaumont allege The Traveler Lloyds Insurance Company improperly paid its claim for damages as a result of business interruption caused after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Southeast Texas OB/GYN Associates will be represented by Wyatt D. Snider and Jason M. Byrd of Snider and Byrd in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: A184-987.
