Latest hurricane-related insurance suits filed in Jefferson County Print

A total of seven new lawsuits against insurance companies over hurricane damage claims were filed in Jefferson County District Court, Sept. 14-18, 2009.

The following complaints were filed:

  • Penny Hashop of 1236 Meadowland Drive in Beaumont alleges Republic Lloyds did not provide proper coverage for her home, but took premiums from her. After Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, Hashop sustained damages to her home, but later discovered she did not have proper coverage, according to the complaint. IAS Claim Services and adjuster Jack Fielder are also named as defendants in the suit because of their role in investigating Hashop's claim. Jefferson County District Court case number: B184-930.

  • Gerald and Nancy McFarlin of 1207 South 29th St. in Nederland allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied their claim for roof, water, wind, contents, foundation and structural damages caused after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after its Vice President of Claims Reggie Warren assigned Huey T. Littleton Claims Service, Western Division, Inc. and adjuster Rodney Cox to investigate. The McFarlins are represented by Richard C. Dalton of Dalton and Associates in Louisiana. Jefferson County District Court case number: B184-950.

  • Erica Mitchell of 5810 Charles in Port Arthur alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied her claim for roof, water, wind, contents and foundation damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after its Vice President of Claims Reggie Warren assigned All-Tech Claims Management and adjuster Luther Waldrop to investigate. Mitchell will be represented by Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: E184-951.

  • Kenneth Mitchell of 2635 15th St. in Port Neches alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association undervalued his claim for damages caused after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Mitchell will be represented by Clint Brasher and Joe Muckleroy of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: B184-910.

  • Gloria and Alvin Polidore Jr. of 4249 Big Bend Ave. in Port Arthur allege Republic Lloyds wrongfully denied their claim for roof, water, wind, structural and contents damages caused to their home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Republic denied their claim after it hired IAS Claim Services, Inc. and adjusters Vincent Blue and James Black to investigate. The Polidores will be represented by Michael R. Ramsey of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: B184-959.

  • Sharon and Frank Reed of 1898 Glasshouse St. in Beaumont allege Standard Guaranty Insurance Company did not provide proper coverage for their home, but took premiums from them. After Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, the Reeds sustained damages to their home, but later discovered they did not have proper coverage, according to the complaint. Jason Male, an adjuster for Standard, is also named as a defendant. The Reeds are represented by Clint Brasher and Joe Muckleroy of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: E184-928.

  • Regional Square Plaza of 3800 Highway 365 and 8700 Ninth Ave. in Port Arthur allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied its claim for business interruption and wind and structural damages caused to its properties after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Regional Square Plaza will be represented by Lance P. Bradley of McPherson, Hughes, Bradley, Wimberley, Steele and Chatelain in Port Arthur. Jefferson County District Court case number: D184-924.
