HARLINGEN - State Farm workers have released more details about a Harlingen woman's insurance fight.  We recently reported on the the damage Hurricane Dolly did to Aleta Ainsworth's house.  Workers are still making repairs.  Ainsworth says State Farm dropped her homeowner's insurance policy with little warning.

A State Farm represenative tells NEWSCHANNEL 5 they do not drop homeowners' policies because of weather-related claims.  By law, the company cannot cancel anyone's policy for weather-related losses.

State Farm says there's an underlying problem with Ainsworth's house.  The company says it is always willing to work with customers and allow them at least 90 days to repair any problems with their property.  State Farm says it followed state law and gave Ainsworth 30-days written notice that it wasn't renewing her policy.

Original Story:

HARLINGEN - Aleta Ainsworth is still rebuilding her home from damage suffered during Hurricane Dolly.

"Thank goodness I have neighbors," she says.

She says her home was heavily damaged during the storm. Workers are still putting the house back together.

She says her insurance provider, State Farm, covered most of the damage.

"I have gotten a check for $8,007 and some odd cents," she says.

But now she says the company has cancelled her policy.

The company called her on the phone and told her the policy would expire on May 30, just two days before this year's hurricane season began.

"I feel upset. I'm scared. I've been through four, five, six hurricanes here in Harlingen," says Ainsworth.

State Farm tells NEWSCHANNEL 5 Texas laws allow insurance companies to not renew policies under certain circumstances, including when a hazard is found on the property.

Ainsworth says for now, her only hope is to sign on again with the company once all the repairs are finished on her home.
